Saturday Night = Movie Night

We have always loved watching movies. It was the closest thing to our hobby. Now things have changed, but are kinda the same (most of the movies we want to watch aren't very 'family friendly'). We still try to do movie nights, usually on Friday or Saturday, but now they are usually more kid friendly. Like this weekend, we watched the movie Ponyo. It was pretty good with a lot of great voice talent (Tina Fey, Matt Damon, and Liam Neeson), however, it was originally a Japanese animated movie. The story was pretty fairy tale-ish, but the characters they had in it were a bit odd. (those Japanese are a crazy and imaginative bunch!) There were a couple of head scratching moments, but overall it was a cute movie.The best part of the night was definitely the popcorn. I have been giving Baby a lot more new foods and so I decided to give him a few small bits of fluff off the popcorn. He loved it. And took it really seriously. If I didn't move fast enough he would get mad and bounce off my lap and try to grab his own handful of popcorn. I love introducing him to new foods, and this was definitely one of his favorite. I have the feeling he is going to love movie nights too!

I love how he looks like, "Dad, can't you see I am busy eating popcorn, can you get that camera out of my face???"

What I did last night

Last night, my best friend from high school and my 15 year old niece braved the crowds and the late hour and went to see Eclipse. It was a great experience, although I did have a few of those "I am too old to be doing this" moments like when we pulled up to join the line of waiting Twilight fans. Almost all the people there were a good 10-15 years younger than me. Nothing makes you feel more out of place than going to a teeny-bopper show, in the middle of the night, surrounded by screaming teenage girls texting (before and after, thankfully) and waiting for their favorite eye candy to pop on the screen. It was still fun and the movie was definitely the best one of the bunch so far. Due to a mechanical problem with the movie half way through, we also got a free ticket to come to another movie. That made it all ok. I think it will be my last midnight show for a long while... it might take me that long to catch back up on sleep.

The weekend plans

Netflix just delivered our weekend plans, Gone with the Wind. My husband has never seen this classic movie, while I have probably seen it at least 4 times. My mother instilled in me a love of all things old... 1960's music, black and white movies, musicals, history, and overly dramatic Oscar winning shows like Gone with the Wind. (The other classic Oscar winning movie I LOVE is Greatest Show on Earth starring Jimmy Stewart and Charlton Heston. So corny but it was so classic).
So hopefully, my dear, my husband will give a damn after this weekend.

Squirrel TV

My crazy dogs (especially Ratchet) have both discovered they love our sliding glass door. I call it squirrel tv because they will sit there for about 30 minutes every afternoon to just watch what is going on. This could include anything like another dog, a neighbor, a bunch of crows or the occasional squirrel. I love this time because it is actual quiet time where Ratchet will sit and not do anything destructive.

Weekend pick me up

Since Travis has been working so hard at looking for a job, and has also become so frustrated with said job hunting (and the reduced hours at his current job), we decided to have a Travis Day in honor of him. It was all his choice movies, and all his choice of food on Saturday night. We started off the evening watching District 9, which was surprisingly good. Then after a dinner of meaty meat pizza and ice cream, we watched GI Joe. He had been wanting to see this movie since it came out and since GI Joes were one of his favorite toys as a boy. I can understand why Channing Tatum is such a hottie now, but other than that the movie was just ok. (not my favorite in the list of guy-movies that I have been forced to sit through). Since I am early to bed now, we carried the last movie over to the next day. Drag Me to Hell was the perfect show to watch on a quiet Sunday afternoon. It was pretty funny and surprisingly entertaining. So over the top, but still had some jumpy moments in it. I hope this weekend has reinvigorated Travis to find that perfect job out there. I have the feeling that it is just around the corner, but the waiting is killing me! Travis, I hope this was the pick me up you needed to refocus your search! It is now just a matter of time! :)

My latest obsession!

The reason I have been missing in the blog world is because of one thing... True Blood. Sorry, I only have the first season, I should be back in about 3 or 4 episodes. :)

Come On Down!

This last week I have learned the happiness that daytime television can bring. I had a little totally minor surgery (which is a story for another day.) and was lounging last week, spending my share of time in front of the television. My morning started off with the BEST game show EVER, The Price is Right!!! I am sorry, Loritab you didn't make me nearly as happy as the girl that won $12000 playing Plinko, or the guy that won BOTH showcases with an awesome bid in the showcase showdown (he was only off by like $40 or something crazy like that). My afternoons were filled with movies and travel shows. I had no idea what I was missing, working the days away. I also love how at the beginning of the day all they show is "old people" commercials (Scooter stores, mean old Wilford Brimley yelling about diabetic supplies, and drug adds) then as noon approaches more food commercials and the afternoon is rounded out with commercials about going back to school. (catchy jingles and ways to make more money quickly. ) Man, when I was younger I didn't pay nearly enough attention to wasting days away and now I can't just sit and watch it unless I have some medical proceedure done. Well I guess I am willing to sacrifice myself in the name of science if it means more of those wonderfully wasteful days in front of the boob tube.
